Our Self-Impression System (S-IS) allows you to create a custom dental mold for which a form-fitting mouthguard can be produced. Each Self-Impression System Kit comes with an order form with a list of color choices available. Once the completed order form and your impression is returned, we will begin constructing your athletic mouthguard.
How to use the Self-Impression System
Do not use with braces, removable dental appliances, or loose teeth. Do not mold if room temperature is greater then 80° F (25° C). CAUTION: Exercise caution when boiling water. Adult supervision recommended for children.
Have the athlete try on the mouthguard tray. If the tray does not extend too far back, use it as is. If you feel the tray is too "long," cut it with scissors just behind the last hole.
Bring water to a boil, then remove from heat. Place the dental tray in the hot water for 30 seconds.
Rinse in cool water for one second.
Place in mouth and bite down firmly. Use your fingers to push the tray against your teeth and gums.
Remove tray and rinse in cold water. After the tray completely dries, open the containers with the two colored impression material. Begin kneading the two putties together until they become a uniform color (approximately 30 seconds).
After kneading, roll the material into a sausage shape and place just enough material into the tray to fill it. Keep a small amount of putty outside the tray.
Place the tray with putty in the mouth and bite down firmly through the putty until you contact the tray. Pull your upper lip over the front of the the tray. Leave in mouth until the putty outside the tray becomes firm, approximately two and a half to three minutes.
Remove from mouth. A good impression should include all the teeth and extend to the gum tissue above the teeth.
NOTE: If impression of teeth does not look sufficient please contact us.
If satisfied with the mouthguard impression, rinse in warm water. Then place it back in the bag it came in, along with your completed order form in the box you received the kit in.
Place the return postage label over the address label on the top of the box. Mail the box.
You should receive your mouthguard in 2-3 weeks at the address provided on the order form.
